Weird Quotes on Trucks
Hello, Felicia here! I'm here to introduce you to weird, trivial things about Indonesia. I'm pretty sure this doesn't exist in Japan, so I think it will be interesting to highlight the cultural difference.
This time, I want to talk about the weird quotes truckworkers put on their trucks. I was racking my phone gallery when suddenly I stumbled into a picture I took. It is a common view in Indonesian toll roads, a truck. But the thing I wanted to highlight was the writings or the quote written on it.
So, this says "Warning!!! Kuinjak gas dan kuinjak kopling agar kau bisa shopping" which roughly means "Warning, i hit the road so you can hit the shops." That, I know, doesn't make any sense. But so are all of the writings on trucks. It usually tells you that the husband is working hard for their wives so they can live happy, and shop as they like. A variation is talking about girls with handpainted pictures of sexy girls. Some may view it embarassing, but I think this gives us an insight on what people, especially truck workers, are thinking about. Essentially, it highlights on the culture of Indonesia's lower class where gender roles are quite strict, where men work and women becomes a housewife. Some of the writings are misogynistic, yes, but it is just how it is.
I hope you enjoyed that fun trivia about trucks, stay tuned for more! See you at the next NiceNiceNasigoreng meetup!
